Friday, February 2nd, 2007英语新闻标题总是力求用有限的字数来表达新闻的内容,为此,在措词上尤其要狠下功夫,选词尽可能经济达意、简短明了,偏爱选用那些短小精悍或字母最少的动词。这是因为短小易懂、形象生动的措词不仅能增强新闻的简洁性和可读性,而且还能节省版面篇幅。如表示“破坏”或“损坏”一词意义的动词,标题一般不用 damage,而用一些较之简短的词,如hit,harm,hurt, ruin或wreck等。又如表示“放弃”这一概念的动词,标题一般不用abandon,而用drop,give up,quit,skip或yield 等,表示“爆炸”之类的动词意义时,一般不用 explode,而用blast,crash, ram或smash等词。简而言之,英语新闻标题大都喜欢选用字形短小、音节不多而意义又比较广泛的词。
这类动词在标题中屡见不鲜,读者平时阅读时不妨多加留意,这对于提高英语水平,尤其是熟悉英语同义动词,无疑是大有裨益的。为便于读者更好地理解英语新闻标题,现再列举一些常见诸报端的标题小词,以备不时之需:

比赛结束时间:本次比赛为选手竞争抢答,试题总数有限,全部试题答完,比赛即告结束。
比赛规则:
- 选手必须在比赛首页注册后,方可开始比赛。
- 注册后至比赛结束前这段时间内选手可随时多次登陆网站答题并获积分。
- 选手在比赛网站的答题页面上进行翻译,翻译结果将记入大赛数据库等待评委会审核,页面上将显示你累计答题的数目和有效答案的数目。
- 每条答案通过审核后方为有效答案,选手每获得一条有效答案即可获赠1或2个积分(得分数视题目长度而定,题目短的1分,长的2分),所有选手的积分情况我们将在比赛结束时在大赛网站上公布。
审核标准:要求内容完整准确,语言自然流畅,提倡意译,不必逐词翻译,符合中文语言习惯。
奖项设置:
- 一等奖:1个 奖 彩屏手机一部 (选手积分最高者)
- 二等奖:2个 奖 256M MP3一部 (选手积分第2,3名者)
- 三等奖:若干 奖 电子词典一部 (选手积分超过500者)
- 优秀奖:若干 奖 128M U盘一个(选手积分超过200者)
- 幸运奖:5个 奖 128M MP3一部(获奖资格请见“网上的热门问题解答”)
- 参与奖:若干 奖6571博客半年VIP会员资格(VIP会员将获得比普通会员多2倍的存储空间以及更多特权)
评奖办法:
- 所有积分超过100的选手都将获得参与奖。
- 选手积分超过200,即可获得优秀奖,此时选手可选择立即兑换奖品,或继续累积积分,冲刺更高奖项。
- 选手积分超过500,即可获得三等奖,此时选手可选择立即兑换奖品,或继续累积积分,冲刺更高奖项。
- 比赛结束时,积分达到300分以上,总排名第二、三名将获得二等奖。

- 答题有什么规则吗?
答:选手上网答题的题目是由程序控制随机选取的,且题库数目有限。有些选手可能会连续抽题后拒绝回答而重新另选,这将导致题库试题快速流失,并加重评委会的负担。因此,为公正、公平起见,连续2次跳题不答或恶性答题者,将会被扣除2个积分,情节特别恶劣的将对其做封号处理,禁止比赛。选手认真正常答题,答案如果无效不扣分也不得分。 - 我怎么知道自己答的题对不对?
答:选手答题后,答题数即时更新,选手可以立即看到自己的答题总数;但是由于翻译比赛不同于客观题比赛,答案需经评委会审核才能确定是否有效(参见“审核通过标准”),所以答题通过数(有效积分数)的更新时间要略滞后于选手答题时间。
选手登陆后,在个人信息栏可以看到当前答题总数、有效积分数、以及最近更新时间。通过最近更新时间,选手可以大致了解自己还有多少题等待审核。 - 我可不可以看见别人的积分?
答:竞赛期间不能。我们要保持竞赛的竞争态势,所以不能马上公开全体选手的积分情况,但选手可以在网站上随时了解自己的积分。等比赛结束时我们会隆重发布比赛积分榜,到时你自然就会知道谁是真正的英雄! - 比赛何时结束?
答:选手上网答题时,可看见动态更新的剩余试题数,当试题数量为零时,比赛就结束了。对于已被选手抽做但没有被评委会判为有效答案的试题,仍将送回题库供继续抽选。 - 幸运奖是怎样产生的?
答:选手抽取试题的时候,如果抽中了2分值的试题,那你就要把握机会了,若你的答案有效,你的资料即被程序摘入“幸运篮子”。比赛结束时,将随机从“幸运篮子”中抽取幸运奖得主;如果你的答案被判为无效,该题将退回题库供继续抽选,幸运就是别人的了。2分试题非常有限,请大家把握机会。

我自己就推荐一个啦,www.answers.com,相当于一个super encyclopedia,写英文paper的时候经常进去查资料,answers挺好的,俺们一直用它。
还有一个我发现里面推荐的比较有趣的是www.there.com 网站的推荐语是 A chatroom with a twist: instead of just reading each other’s text, you get to meet people in the virtual flesh. Type in what you want to say and it appears in a speech balloon over your onscreen character’s head. You can do stuff like shop for clothes and race dune buggies, or just hang out and socialize.
遗憾是这是付费的聊天社区,但是但是有免费三天试用,可以去玩玩,有意思~
